Amboseli is located in southern Kenya, at the foot of Mount Kilimanjaro, Africa’s tallest mountain. The name “Amboseli” comes from the Maasai language, meaning “salty dust.” The park is famous for its large elephant herds, which are a major attraction. It is also home to two springs that provide water to the area. Beneath the surface, there is an endless supply of water that flows from Kilimanjaro through volcanic rocks. Besides elephants, the park is known for other wildlife, including the Big Five and wild dogs.
Visitors can enjoy panoramic views of the park from observation hills, which offer a great vantage point of the swamps and the elephants grazing below. The diverse landscapes, from dry savannah to wetlands, make it a unique destination. Amboseli is also renowned for its birdlife, with many species frequenting the wetlands. Its close proximity to Kilimanjaro makes it an iconic spot for nature lovers and photographers alike.
